Millennials have been through a lot, from 9/11 and the Great Recession to student debt, the housing crisis, and more.
And as if real life wasn't enough, their childhood movies weren't exactly easy either. So, when Threads user @mommy_gardens asked people to share a cartoon that deeply impacted them as a child, millennials dominated the conversation with ALL the movies that impacted them as kids.
1. The Lion King seems to have left the biggest emotional mark. I think we all know the scene. It is when Mufasa dies trying to save Simba after Scar causes a stampede and then betrays his brother by refusing to help him.
THE SCENE IS JUST AWFUL.
2. They also still get distressed over the death of the mom in The Land Before Time. Littlefoot's mom sacrifices herself to save him from a Sharptooth, and later dies from the injuries she suffered protecting him.
3. One of the saddest moments in The Fox and the Hound is when Widow Tweed realizes she can't keep Tod safe and tearfully leaves him alone in a wildlife preserve, forcing him to survive in the wild without her.
4. An unforgettable, emotional moment in Dumbo is when Dumbo's mother is locked away after protecting him from people who were mistreating him, leaving him alone and only able to visit her through the bars of her enclosure.
5. People can't ever forget when Bambi's mom is shot by a hunter while helping him escape, leaving him to face the loss of his mother at a young age.
6. The Swamps of Sadness scene in The NeverEnding Story is one of the most heartbreaking moments of the film, in which Atreyu loses his beloved horse, Artax, after Artax becomes overwhelmed by the swamp's despair and sinks despite Atreyu's attempts to save him.
7. In Bridge to Terabithia, the rope is the way Jess and Leslie cross the creek into their imaginary kingdom of Terabithia. Leslie dies after the rope swing breaks while she is crossing the creek alone, causing her to fall and drown.
8. In All Dogs Go to Heaven, one of the most emotional moments is when Charlie sacrifices himself to save Anne-Marie after realizing he truly cares about her.
9. In My Girl, the part that'll leave you heartbroken is when Vada’s best friend Thomas J. dies after being stung by bees while trying to retrieve her lost mood ring. Vada is devastated and refuses to believe he’s gone, crying that he needs his glasses because he can’t see without them.
10. In Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, the saddest part is when Shadow, the elderly golden retriever, is injured and struggles to climb out of a muddy pit, making his family believe he may not come home.
11. In Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the most frightening moment is when the Evil Queen disguises herself as an old woman and tricks Snow White into eating a poisoned apple, causing her to fall into a deep sleep.
12. In The Hunchback of Notre Dame, it is beyond upsetting when Quasimodo is cruelly mocked and abandoned by a crowd, showing how deeply he longs to be loved and accepted.
13. In Cinderella, the worst part is when Cinderella’s stepsisters destroy her chance to go to the ball by tearing apart the dress she made with help from her mice friends.
14. In Pinocchio, one of the most unsettling moments is when Pinocchio gets trapped on Pleasure Island and discovers that careless boys are being turned into donkeys.
15. Another horrifying moment in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is when Snow White flees into a dark, spooky forest after the Evil Queen orders her death.
16. And, lastly, in Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland, one disturbing moment is when Nemo’s dream world begins to fall apart after he opens the forbidden door and unleashes the Nightmare King.
