People Are Dying From Secondhand Embarrassment After Watching This Cringeworthy Jonah Hill Interview Clip

“Bro you are a middle aged man you don’t have to live like this anymore.”

People are suffering from a severe case of secondhand embarrassment after a clip from Jonah Hill’s live appearance on the SmartLess podcast earlier this year went viral on X.

In case you missed it, 42-year-old Jonah joined hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett on stage for the live recording of their podcast back in May, and his comments about jiu-jitsu have now struck a chord online.

In the video, Jonah begins: “I love Brazilian jiu-jitsu… Except my body is begging me to not love it, 42 isn’t… My wife is often like: ‘You're not going to become, like, a professional fighter, you know that, right? Like, you're a comedian.’”

At this point, Jason asked: “But, let me ask you something, if we got into it…” Jonah immediately interjected: “Oh, I would fuck you up. I would fuck all three of you up.”

“And that’s the best part,” he went on to brag. “My favorite thing is people are like: ‘Oh, Jonah Hill, fucking fat guy from Superbad,’ and I'm like: ‘I would fucking annihilate you, dude, I’m not kidding, dude. Try it if you see me, try it, dude.'”

He then clarified: “Unless you are bigger than me, fucking fuck around and find out.”

As mentioned, the whole thing has arguably not landed in the way that Jonah anticipated, with the star being torn to shreds for his extreme reaction to being recognized for what was, objectively, his breakout film.

And it didn’t take long for the clip to go viral, with many people calling out Jonah’s apparent insecurities in the responses. One reads: “i think this is the smallest anyone has ever sounded dawg. don’t live your life like this.” Somebody else echoed: “Bro you are a middle aged man you don’t have to live like this anymore.”

Another noted: “embarrassing insecurities aside it’s just funny that he said he could fuck all 3 of them up when will arnett could prob crush him into a fine powder.” While one more tweeted: “I was really surprised to learn that he's been doing bjj since 2018, you have to be a real psycho to still have this mentality past your first few months of training.”

Jonah Hill says jiu jitsu has him ready to “annihilate” anyone who still sees him as the fat guy from Superbad

One of the most popular quote-tweets with more than 132K likes poked fun at Jonah’s comment by quipping: “unbelievably pathetic aura from this guy - reminds me of the fat guy from Superbad.” Somebody else claimed: “Deep down, you know he absolutely still feels like the fat guy from Superbad.”

Others compared Jonah’s comments about Brazilian jiu-jitsu to fellow actor Tom Hardy’s, who opened up about his passion for the martial arts form back in 2024. At the time, Tom said of joining a jiu-jitsu club: “I started to enjoy the community, and it gives me a level of confidence because I always get beaten, but that's OK because I kept turning up.”

“We’re never gonna be the best, it's impossible, but you can be better than you were by coming,” Tom added. “I have no competitive spirit, I don't need to [be the best] … I think it's good to start at the bottom and be shit at something, but if you keep going, you get better.”
