Back in the spring, Natalie Portman confirmed that she and her partner, musician Tanguy Destable, are expecting their first child together.

Natalie, who turned 45 in June, already has two older kids with her ex-husband, Benjamin Millepied. While discussing her latest pregnancy news with Harper's Bazaar in April, she said it was "a privilege and a miracle" to fall pregnant at this stage in her life.

"I grew up hearing about how hard it is to get pregnant. I have so many people I love who’ve had such a hard time with it that I want to be respectful around that as well. It’s such a beautiful, joyous thing, and it’s also not an easy thing," she told the outlet. "So I know how lucky it is. I’m very aware, and I’m very grateful. I have deep appreciation and gratitude."
Now, the typically private Oscar-winner has given another update on her pregnancy journey, and it sounds like she's truly thriving.

Discussing her wellness routine in a new interview with Elle magazine, Natalie said she feels like being pregnant is "almost" like doing a health cleanse. "You don’t drink and can’t have caffeine. So I’m like, Wow, I’ve never been cleaner in my life," she said. "I try and do some kind of physical activity every day. I either swim or walk, and do gyrotonics. I’m still vegan. I take lots of vitamins. I try and sleep as much as possible."

As we mentioned, this will be Natalie's third child, and she revealed that the one side effect she's had with each of her pregnancies is a heightened sense of smell — almost like a superpower.

"Scent becomes much more present for me when I’m pregnant each time, for better or worse," she explained. "I was at a restaurant with a friend of mine the other night, and I was like, There’s gas. There’s a problem. My sense is much more potent, and it must be something to warn you about danger, because I am hyperaware of gas and smoke."
Natalie's current partner is French, her ex is French, and she's been based in Paris with her kids for quite some time now. Back in April, a source told People that Natalie has very much built a "new life" in Paris since her divorce, which was finalized back in February 2024.
With that in mind, Elle asked Natalie if there are any differences "in the way that pregnancy or maternal care is perceived in the U.S. versus France," and her answer was super interesting.

Noting that it is the same "in many ways," and the doctors are just as "amazing" in both countries, Natalie said: "The biggest difference for me is a socialized versus not-socialized approach to medicine. When you’re in a socialized medicine country, they’re trying to do the best for the most people, without making you pay for extra stuff. Whereas, in the US, they’re like, 'Well, if you want this, we can add this.' You can see that it is also a business."

She also said that they have "different landmarks for pregnancy and some of the tests they recommend are different."
