1. "When Meghan Trainor posted a TikTok of her side-by-side toilets."
In 2021, Meghan revealed that she and her husband, Daryl Sabara, have side-by-side toilets installed in their bathroom. On the podcast Why Won't You Date Me, she said, "We just got a new house, and we did construction. Nobody knows this, but in our bathroom, there was one toilet, and a lot of time in the middle of the night, when we're with the baby, we've got to pee at the same time. So I was like, 'Can we please have two toilets next to each other?' We've only pooped together twice. We pee at the same time a lot."
On Twitter, she added, "To clear things up…we pooped ONCE together and we laughed and said never again…but he will hang out with me if I'm 💩ing cuz WE SOULMATES. And i legit miss him when I'm away from him. And we pee together obvi."
2. "When we all found out that King Charles wanted to be Camilla Parker Bowles's tampon. Never forget. How he ever showed his face in public again is beyond me."
In 1993, shortly after Charles and Princess Diana separated, his affair with Camilla exploded across the British tabloids in a scandal known as "Tampongate" (or "Camillagate"). The press published the full transcript of a very intimate phone call between Charles and Camilla. He said that he wanted to "live inside [her] trousers" and joked about being reincarnated as her tampon.
This is the full transcript:
Charles: "Oh, God. I'll just live inside your trousers or something. It would be much easier!"
Camilla [laughing]: "What are you going to turn into, a pair of knickers? [Both laugh]. Oh, you're going to come back as a pair of knickers."
Charles: "Or, God forbid, a Tampax. Just my luck! [Laughs]"
Camilla: "You are a complete idiot! [Laughs] Oh, what a wonderful idea."
Charles: "My luck to be chucked down a lavatory and go on and on forever swirling round on the top, never going down."
Camilla [Laughing]: "Oh, darling!"
Charles: "Until the next one comes through."
Camilla: "Oh, perhaps you could just come back as a box."
Charles: "What sort of box?"
Camilla: "A box of Tampax, so you could just keep going."
Charles: "That's true."
Camilla: "Repeating yourself … [Laughing]. Oh, darling, oh, I just want you now."
3. "Chet Hank's fake Jamaican accent."
In 2020, Chet — who is a white boy from Los Angeles, for context — posted (and later deleted) a video of himself speaking patois with a fake Jamaican accent at the Golden Globes. Despite backlash for cultural appropriation, he continued using the accent in videos. Later that year, other users on Clubhouse called him out, and he reportedly replied, "Guys, it's really as simple as this. If I get on a binge and I watch a bunch of English gangster movies, and I go around, ordering a coffee at Starbucks and I'm with my friend and I go, 'Give me a latte, guvna,' I'm not shitting on English people."
Unsurprisingly, his response faced continued criticism.
His reps didn't respond to the Independent's request for comment at the time.
4. "The 'David's dead' sequence on Celebrity Big Brother UK. I felt embarrassed for Angela Bowie."
In 2016, Angela Bowie told her Big Brother housemate Tiffany Pollard that her famous ex-husband, David Bowie, had died. However, Tiffany freaked out because she mistakenly thought Angela was talking about their castmate David Gest. Then, Tiffany rallied her other housemates to check on Gest, who was napping with the sheet over his face because he'd recently had a surgery that left him unable to close his eyes. Darren Day told GQ, "David had had a third face-lift done. He thought they’d pulled it too tight, so he couldn’t close his eyes. So when I pulled the sheets back, his eyes were open. It looked like he was dead. And that was it."
After his time on the show, David (who exited early due to health concerns) planned to embark on a tour cheekily titled David Gest Is Not Dead but Alive With Soul. However, sadly, he died before the tour started.
At the 2021 VMAs, Megan walked the red carpet in a "naked" dress alongside her then-partner, Machine Gun Kelly. The daring look was apparently his idea! She told Entertainment Tonight, "He was like, 'You're gonna be naked tonight.' I was like, 'Whatever you say, daddy!'"
6. "Ben Affleck trying a dating app and sending a video to the woman who unmatched him, saying, 'It's meeee.'"
In 2021, Ben reportedly matched with author Nivine Jay on the celebrity dating app Raya. Unsure if it was actually the actor, she decided to unmatch him. Then, to prove he wasn't a catfish, Ben allegedly Instagram DM'd her a video of himself saying, "Nivine! Why did you unmatch me? It's me."
7. "Reese Witherspoon threatening the officer with, 'DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?' when her husband got pulled over for drunk driving."
In 2013, Reese and her then-husband, Jim Toth, were pulled over in Atlanta, and Reese drunkenly played the privilege card in a way Elle Woods would definitely not approve of. At one point, Reese reportedly told the state trooper, "Do you know my name? ... You're about to find out who I am. You're about to be on national news." Before the officer gave Jim a field sobriety test, Reese got out of the car. She returned to her seat as instructed, but when she got out again, the state trooper warned her that he'd arrest her if she got out of the car another time. In his report, he wrote that, during the test, "Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer. I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet."
Jim was arrested and charged with a DUI and failure to maintain the lane. Then, Reese upped the ante. She left the car again to ask what was happening, and when the officer told her to go back, she "stated that she was a 'US Citizen' and that she was allowed to 'stand on American ground.'" Unsurprisingly, that didn't work either. She was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
However, Reese owned up to her mistakes and faced the consequences. In an apology statement, she said, "I clearly had one drink too many, and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation, and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police, and I'm very sorry for my behavior." She later pleaded no contest and paid a $100 fine. Jim also pleaded guilty and was handed a $600 fine and 40 hours of community service.
8. "Kanye taking the award from Taylor Swift."
In 2009, Taylor won Best Female Video for "You Belong With Me," and Ye stormed the stage, took the mic, and declared that Beyoncé should've won for "Single Ladies" instead.
Former MTV Chief Van Toffler told the Hollywood Reporter that Taylor, her mom, and Beyoncé were all crying backstage after the incident.
Taylor told Rolling Stone, "I was really excited because I had just won the award. And then I was really excited because Kanye West was onstage. And then I wasn’t so excited anymore after that."
This was, of course, the incident that launched a years-long feud between Taylor and Ye.
9. "Kendall Jenner's Pepsi commercial was pretty embarrassing."
In 2017, Kendall faced criticism for starring in a Pepsi commercial in which she brought peace between protestors and the police by handing an officer a can of soda. In a statement, Pepsi told BuzzFeed News, "This is a global ad that reflects people from different walks of life coming together in a spirit of harmony...and we think that's an important message to convey." However, they pulled the commercial within a day and issued an apology.
Several months after the scandal, Kendall addressed the criticism for the first time on an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
In a confessional, she said, "After I saw the reaction and I read what people had to say about it, I most definitely saw what went wrong. I was so stuck, and I really didn't know what to do, and I completely shut down... I would never purposely hurt someone, ever, and if I knew this would've been the outcome, I never would've done something like this. The fact that I would offend or hurt other people was definitely not the intent. And that's what got me the most, is that I would've ever made anyone else upset."
10. "When they announced that La La Land had won Best Picture, when it really hadn't."
While presenting the Oscar for Best Picture award in 2017, Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty accidentally announced the winner as La La Land instead of Moonlight. However, midway through the cast and crews' acceptance speech, producer Jordan Horowitz was reportedly shown an envelope with the correct winner's title. So, he interrupted the speech to ensure Moonlight got their big moment.
It turned out that someone had accidentally given Warren an envelope for Best Actress, so Faye mistakenly read the name of the film that the Best Actress winner, Emma Stone, was in.
Behind the scenes, Warren showed director Barry Jenkins the correct envelope so that he could be confident his film Moonlight was the true winner.
11. "Aubrey Plaza seemingly drunkenly trying to take Will Ferrell's MTV Movie Award. Even seconds after, you can see the regret in her eyes."
In the middle of Will's acceptance speech at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, Aubrey ran onstage with a drink in her hand and the name of her upcoming movie, The To Do List, written across her chest. Without speaking, she tried to take the trophy out of his hands. After she left the stage, Will quipped, "Aubrey Plaza, everyone! Just like we rehearsed it…it was perfect — not too long, not too short. Right on the money!"
MTV told the Washington Post that the stunt hadn't been staged on their end, and they asked Aubrey to leave afterward.
Referencing the infamous 2009 VMAs moment when Kanye West stormed the stage during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech, Aubrey tweeted, "Thanks for the advice @kanyewest went better than planned!"
12. "On The Tyra Banks Show, Tyra Banks did a segment where she dressed in a fat suit and went around town to feel what it was like to navigate life and people when you're not thin ('thin and pretty/beautiful' was implied). She even went on a couple of blind dates in the suit."
13. "Tom Hiddleston wearing an 'I love TS' shirt while dating Taylor Swift."
Tom later told GQ, "The truth is, it was the Fourth of July and a public holiday, and we were playing a game, and I slipped and hurt my back. And I wanted to protect the graze from the sun and said, 'Does anyone have a t-shirt?' And one of her friends said, 'I've got this.' And we all laughed about it. It was a joke."
14. "Justin Bieber throwing eggs at his neighbors' houses."
In 2014, 20-year-old Justin and his friends were accused of egging his neighbor's mansion, causing $20,000 in damage to the exterior. To avoid a felony charge, he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor vandalism. He was ordered to pay $80,000 in restitution and stay away from the neighbor. He was also sentenced to five days of community service and anger management classes.
15. "Ariana Grande's donut controversy, lol. It was just so random. But it was funny how more people were mad about her jokingly saying, 'I hate America' than her licking donuts."
In 2014, Ariana's "malicious licking" incident went viral. TMZ posted video security camera footage of the singer licking donuts she didn't purchase at a bakery. She also said, "I hate America. I hate Americans." She later apologized in a YouTube video, saying that she was "disgusted" with herself and wished she could "disappear." She added, "Seeing a video of yourself behaving poorly that you had no idea was taken is such a rude awakening."
16. "Alec Baldwin's call/rant to his preteen daughter, Ireland."
In 2007, TMZ leaked Alec's voicemail to his then-11-year-old daughter, Ireland. Angry that she hadn't picked up his call at the scheduled time, he said, "I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned. You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone. ... You are a rude, thoughtless little pig."
His ex-wife Kim Basinger's spokesperson told CBS News, "The voice mail speaks for itself."
Alec's lawyer told the outlet that she'd filed a court order "to determine how the tape got leaked and to determine whether actions should be taken [against] Kim Basinger, or her attorneys, or Harvey Levin (who runs TMZ.com) and anybody else associated with the leaking of the tape and the violation of the court orders to keep the proceedings closed."
Alec made a public apology on his website, writing, "Although I have been told by numerous people not to worry too much, as all parents lose their patience with their kids, I am most saddened that this was released to the media because of what it does to a child. I'm sorry, as everyone who knows me is aware, for losing my temper with my child. I have been driven to the edge by parental alienation for many years now. You have to go through this to understand. (Although I hope you never do.) I am sorry for what happened. But I am equally sorry that a court order was violated, which had deliberately been put under seal in this case.
In such public cases, your opponents attempt to take a picture of you on your worst day and insist that this is who you are as a person," Baldwin wrote. "Outside the doors of divorce court, I have friends, I have respect from people I work with and I have a normal relationship with my daughter. All of that is threatened whenever one enters a courtroom."
However, Ireland had the last laugh! At the 2019 Comedy Central Roast of Alec Baldwin, she jokingly reintroduced herself to her dad. Then, she said, "It's good to be here. I almost didn't even know about it because I haven't checked my voicemails from my dad from the last 12 years or something?"
17. "I remember Taco Bell sent Ashlee Simpson a trophy shaped like a chip that said 'Nacho Day' after her SNL debacle. And honestly, we do not talk about that part enough."
In October 2004, Ashlee gave one of the most infamous Saturday Night Live performances of all time. After host Jude Law introduced her to perform her second song, the vocals for "Pieces of Me" (the song she'd already performed earlier) began playing. Unsure what to do as her prerecorded vocals played, Ashlee awkwardly did a hoedown dance before leaving the stage.
During the goodnight section of the show, Ashlee said, "My band started playing the wrong song, and I didn't know what to do, so I thought I'd do a hoedown. I'm sorry."
However, appearing on the Broad Ideas With Rachel Bilson & Olivia Allen podcast 20 years later, she revealed the truth — she'd been lip syncing because she had recently been diagnosed with "two nodules beating against each other," but she was afraid to cancel her appearance at the last minute. She said, "I feel like it was a humbling moment for me. I had the number one song, it was, like, everything was about go, like, somewhere, and then it was just, like, woah. The humility of not even understanding what grown ass people would say about you, awful, awful things."
18. "Politician doom moment... The 'Dean Scream' by Howard Dean. Wild to watch and think about that today. It seems so very minor now and would not even be a blip on the radar today."
The former governor of Vermont had been the frontrunner for the Democrats' presidential nomination until he came in third at the Iowa caucus. Then, in January 2004, he gave a speech to try to reinvigorate his campaign. However, he ended his rallying cry with an infamous screech that became known as the "Dean scream." Because this was a time when politicians still felt shame, pundits blamed the scream for his failing campaign. However, he contends that he was already losing at that point. You can hear the Dean scream for yourself here.
19. "An oldie but a goodie, Fabio's bird strike. Or was that only famous in Virginia?"
In 1999, Fabio rode front row on Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens Williamsburg for the new roller coaster's opening day. However, disaster struck (literally) during a drop when Fabio's face collided with a flying goose at around 73 miles an hour. Sadly, the bird died. Pictures of the model covered in its blood became national news.
Fabio later told People, "Now, let me tell you, during that time, every single law firm in America, three or four of the big law firms, they come up to me and say, 'Fabio, that's going to be the first easy four or $5 million in your life.' I said, 'No.' ... I said, 'No, it's principle. I did my job. I'm not going to sue them. I took the job. I signed that contract.'"
In 2012, Mark told Men's Journal, "If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn't have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin, and then me saying, 'OK, we're going to land somewhere safely, don't worry.'"
After his comments were criticized as "disrespectful," he apologized, saying, "To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with, and to suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible. I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive. It was certainly not my intention."
21. "Jennifer Lawrence on The Graham Norton Show talking about scratching her ass on sacred Hawaiian rocks. Even Chris Pratt was visibly uncomfortable watching her tell the story, and he's someone who's pretty willing to have a laugh and keep the mood light."
During a 2016 visit to The Graham Norton Show, Jennifer Lawrence talked about scratching her butt on rocks that native Hawaiians consider sacred while filming The Hunger Games. Framing it as a quirky anecdote, she said, "I dunno, [the rocks] were ancestors, who knows — they were sacred. And you're not supposed to sit on them, because you're not supposed to expose your genitalia to them. I, however, was in a wetsuit for this whole shoot – oh my god, they were so good for butt itching! One rock that I was butt-scratchin' on came loose [causing a landslide]...and almost killed our sound guy... And all the Hawaiians were like, 'Oh my god, it's the curse!' And I'm in the corner going, 'I'm your curse. I wedged it loose with my ass.'"
She later apologized on Facebook, writing, "I meant absolutely no disrespect to the Hawaiian people. I really thought that I was being self-deprecating about the fact that I was 'the curse,' but I understand the way it was perceived was not funny, and I apologize if I offended anyone."
22. "Kesha going up to Jerry Seinfeld and asking for a hug on the red carpet. 😭😭😭😭"
23. "When Don Cheadle said his age, and Kevin Hart reacted by going 'Damn!' causing Cheadle to stare daggers at him, prompting Hart to sheepishly apologize whilst Cheadle dismissed the attempt."
24. And finally: "Gemma Collins's stage incident at the Radio 1 Teen Awards."
